Java development

Java still runs a large share of Android apps and server systems. We work with it when a product already has a Java codebase, or when a backend needs the maturity of the JVM ecosystem.

System.out.println("Hello, Paris");

How we use Java

On Android, Java projects often need care rather than a rewrite. We update build tooling, raise the target SDK to meet current Google Play requirements and introduce Kotlin gradually, module by module, so the app keeps shipping while it improves. On the server side we use Java with Spring Boot for services that handle authentication, payments or heavy data processing. We document each service with an OpenAPI description so mobile developers can work against it before it is finished.

What we build with Java

  • Maintenance and modernisation of existing Android Java code
  • Target SDK and dependency upgrades
  • Gradual migration to Kotlin without freezing releases
  • Spring Boot services with OpenAPI documentation
  • JUnit test coverage for critical paths

Questions about Java

Should we rewrite our Java Android app in Kotlin?

Rarely all at once. We usually recommend writing new features in Kotlin and converting old code when it is touched anyway.

Can you take over a Java project someone else built?

Yes. We start with a code and build audit, then share a written list of risks and a plan before changing anything.
